Floor plan tips
US plans give rooms in feet, such as a 12 ft × 14 ft bedroom, which is 3.66 m × 4.27 m. Convert both sides before you work out the area in square meters.
Standard ceilings of 8–9 ft are 2.44–2.74 m, and 32–36 in doors are 0.81–0.91 m wide. A typical 10 ft × 10 ft room is 3.05 m × 3.05 m.
Metric suppliers sell flooring, paint and tiles by the square meter, so convert the room size first and then add 5–10% for waste.
