Living Room Floor Plan Maker: example made from a fictional home

What is a living room floor plan?

A living room floor plan is a top-down drawing that shows where the sofa, chairs, coffee table, TV and rug go, along with doors, windows and walking paths. Planloom draws it from a few words: thick black walls, door swings and windows, furniture in soft colors with light shadows, the room labeled and the overall dimensions written along two walls.

Use it to try a sectional against a sofa and two chairs, test a TV wall, or see how a living room layout flows into the dining area. The first preview is free and watermarked. Change the words and generate again, then lift your favorite into a 10-second 3D video. Want the kitchen next to it? See the kitchen floor plan page.

The 3D video, beat by beat

0-3s

The furnished plan

The video opens on your furnished living room plan seen from straight above, with the sofa, rug and coffee table in soft colors.

3-7s

The walls rise

The walls extrude upward from the plan into a 3D model while the camera tilts from the top view to a 45-degree angle. The seating and rug stay exactly where the plan put them.

7-10s

A gentle glide

The camera glides across the space with soft ambient music. The layout and furniture stay exactly the same; nothing morphs.

Tips for a better living room floor plan

Say the room size

Give the size in feet or meters, such as 14 ft x 18 ft. The size sets how much seating fits.

Name the main pieces

Sofa or sectional, armchairs, coffee table, TV unit, shelves. Say where the TV or fireplace is the focal point.

Mark doors and windows

Say which wall has the door and which has the windows, so the walkways make sense.

Try a few layouts

Each generation arranges the same furniture differently. Compare several living room layouts and keep the best.

Who uses a living room floor plan

Movers use it to decide where the sofa goes before the truck arrives. Homeowners use it to test a new layout, stagers and agents use it to mock up a listing, and designers use it for a first concept. It gives you a colored living room layout to share and refine.

Typical living room sizes and clearances

Use these as conservative starting points, and check local building rules.

- Sizes: a small living room is about 10 ft x 12 ft (3 m x 3.7 m), and an average one is about 12 ft x 18 ft (3.7 m x 5.5 m) or larger. - Furniture: a sofa is about 84 in (2.1 m) long and 36 in (91 cm) deep, an armchair about 30 to 36 in (76 to 91 cm) square. - Coffee table: place it 14 to 18 in (35 to 45 cm) from the sofa. - Walkways: keep 30 to 36 in (75 to 90 cm) for main paths. - Conversation distance: seats that face each other work best within about 8 to 10 ft (2.4 to 3 m). - Rug: a rug under the coffee table should reach at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs. - Layout tips: float furniture off the wall if there is room, and keep the TV centered on one main wall.

Accuracy and limits

A living room layout depends on exact furniture sizes that the AI reads only from your text. The AI invents a plausible layout from your description, so two runs will not match. The result is a visualization, not a construction drawing, and it does not keep exact dimensions or scale. Check every measurement with a professional before you build or buy. Labels come out in English. There is no DXF or CAD export and no editable vector file; you get an image.

Pricing

Every visitor gets one free preview, watermarked, with no sign-in. After that, each image costs 2 credits and arrives without a watermark at 2K resolution. A 10-second 3D video of the result costs 30 credits, and a failed generation refunds its credits automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Is the living room floor plan free to try?

Yes. Each person gets one free preview, watermarked and with no sign-in. Watermark-free 2K images and the 3D video use credits.

What should I write in the description?

The room size, the main seating, the focal point such as a TV or fireplace, extra pieces and the positions of the door and windows.

Are the sizes and dimensions accurate?

No. The AI draws a plausible layout from your description and writes overall dimensions on the plan, but it is a visualization, not a construction drawing. It does not keep exact dimensions or scale, so check measurements with a professional before you build or buy.

Can it plan an open living and dining space?

Yes. Describe the two areas together with one total size, for example a living room open to a dining table for six. The AI will zone them in one plan.

Will my sectional fit?

Name the sectional and the room size and the plan will show it in that space with walkways. It is a visualization, so measure your real sofa and room. Planning the dining or kitchen side? Try the [kitchen floor plan](/kitchen-floor-plan) tool.

How much do credits cost?

Starter is $19.99 per month ($119 per year) for 200 credits per month, and Pro is $29.99 per month ($299 per year) for 600 credits per month. One-time packs, no subscription: 200 credits for $29.99 and 600 for $79.99, valid for 365 days. Each image is 2 credits and the 10-second 3D video is 30. Credits from a failed generation are refunded automatically.

Can I export to DXF, CAD or an editable file?

No. You download a PNG or JPG image. There is no DXF or CAD export and no editable vector file. For a plain black-and-white plan without furniture, try the [AI floor plan generator](/ai-floor-plan-generator).

Is my living room floor plan private?
